Breastfeeding is not an easy task. Although it seems like it should be a “no brainer” for mom to be able to get her newborn baby to breastfeed, it is actually much harder than that. There’s a reason hospitals offer lactation consultants to help teach mom the proper techniques of breastfeeding. Some moms are able to get the baby to latch without any consultation while other moms struggle and struggle to breastfeed their babies and decided, for their own sanity, that it might just be better to turn to baby formula to feed their children.

Although dads should know better than to get too involved in whether or not a mom feels it is best for her and her baby to breastfeed, one dad could not resist. He wanted his child to breastfeed so badly that he was willing to trick the mother to continue breastfeeding, although the process was extremely painful for her and did not work easily at all.

The mother felt so hurt by her husband’s trickery. She turned to Reddit to get another person’s opinion about the issue.

“My daughter, ten months old, has recently started biting during breastfeeding,” the mom wrote. “When she starts to bite, I simply tell her ‘no’ and put her down immediately. I only started doing this recently because my breasts kind of look like a war zone — I’m bleeding and sore because of the biting and simply cannot take it anymore.”

When a mom has a child who bites the nipple, breastfeeding becomes a painful and laborious process.

The Reddit mom tried pumping, but that also did not provide much relief. The pumping process was grueling for her and very difficult for her to maintain. Plus, she was exhausted caring for her baby that she didn’t have the energy to pump her breasts every day or multiple times per day.

“Instead, I’ve been doing a mix of pumping and formula,” said the mom.

Mixing formula and breastmilk is a common way for moms to wean their children off of the nipple. But dad objected.

“He was okay with me pumping and feeding our daughter until I started supplementing with formula. He believes that breastmilk is best, and the formula is the devil because it’s not ‘natural’ or something. At this age, I’m giving her milk around 4-5 times a day, and still attempt to breastfeed once or twice a day.”

Then dad tried his tricks.

“It reached the tipping point yesterday when he hid the formula so I’d have ‘no choice’ but to breastfeed our daughter,” she said. “I ask him why he’s doing this, and he simply says he doesn’t think I’m trying hard enough because I stopped simply because she’s biting me, and that a good mother wouldn’t stop doing what’s best for her child simply because she’s in pain.”

Readers were outraged that this father would do this. While breastfeeding can be beneficial, it should not override the health and wellness of mom and baby.
