Just days after Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson beat COVID-19, Rita Wilson comes forward to celebrate her victory over another deadly disease. On March 29, 2020, Rita Wilson created a post for social media, where she declared herself cancer-free for five years. Not only did Wilson beat the novel coronavirus, but she also beat the odds against breast cancer, which was a cause for her and her husband, Tom Hanks, to celebrate despite the order to practice social distancing.

Although most people were checking the news on March 29, 2020, for the latest updates on the COVID-19 pandemic, Rita Wilson had cause to celebrate. Not only were she and Tom Hanks cleared of the coronavirus that they’d contracted while in Australia, but she was also able to mark five years of being free from breast cancer. It was a double victory worth celebrating for the singer and actor.

She wrote a post on Instagram that claimed how March 29 “represents a time of great happiness” for her and her family.

In her Instagram post, Rita Wilson posed with Seinfeld co-creator Larry David. She wrote the following to share her gratitude for being alive during these turbulent times and for all the love and support she has received during her lifetime and throughout her battle with both cancer and COVID-19.

“This date, March 29, represents a time of great happiness. I was on Broadway starring Larry David in his play Fish In The Dark before finding out I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. March 29 also marks five years of being cancer-free after having had a bilateral mastectomy. I am so thankful for my health, for the doctors, nurses, friends, and family who got me through that time. You, online friends, also need to be thanked because your prayers and optimism were felt deeply. And, so thankful for the blessings God has bestowed on me, then and now. One year ago on March 29, I was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a street, that as a child, I’d walk on an read all the names of the stars I admired, never believing one day my name would be on one of those stars. And one year ago today, I released my fourth album, Halfway to Home. Every day I get to make music is a gift. So much has happened musically in that one year. So much goodness. All of this would not be possible without good health. So, today, March 29, I am celebrating the beauty of this life, the blessings God has given, and my continued good health, even now as a COVID 19 survivor. Please take a moment today to acknowledge the amazing creation your bodies are and to thank it for doing so much.”

Now that Rita Wilson is both a survivor of cancer and COVID-19, she has more reason to celebrate than ever. She and her husband survived a pandemic that has many people terrified for their lives.
